Beware of Red Line Energy Drink!

I have copied below a post from my husband's blog detailing a frightening incident we had as a result of a family friend drinking a Red Line energy drink. This is a very dangerous concoction, so please avoid it and caution your friends and family!

A week ago last night, one of my friends drank an energy drink -- Red Line, manufactured by VPX Sports -- and spent the next 24 hours so sick that we were monitoring her carefully in anticipation of having to take her to the emergency room.

Her symptoms, which came on about two and a half hours after she drank a can of the brew, included chills, sweating, diarrhea and vomiting, vomiting, vomiting with deep, racking convulsions that were quite frightening to watch. Fortunately, they died down and she eventually returned to her normal, healthy self.

She is hardly alone in her reaction to this foul concoction. Here's Lynn commenting on HealthBoard message boards:
I dont recommend it to anyone. Seriously, I am not a light weight when it comes to things that amp you. But this one, no, no, no! It made me immediately ill, shaky, chest pain beyond belief, I thought I was going to die. (sweating and chills, through [sic] up 3 times). Outrageous, I wonder how they were able to actually sell it to anybody.

And, 10.5 hrs later???? Still sick and heart pounding out of control.
And here's the quick-typing Sleepy commenting on the site Tell Him Fred:
I have a porblem with redlineenergy drink. i drank the whole can yesterday, after i drank the can about 4 hours later i started getting shakey, then i started to throw up, i couldnt keep food down, rapid heart rate followed, extreme sweating from my body getting overheated, then my left side muscles started to go cold and hurt, I was awake a good part of the night and it was worse than any illegal drug i have ever tried and I’ve been around. Do NOT drink this drink it is bad news and shouldn’t be legal
And, if you want some "expert" opinion, here's a review from Energy Drink Reviews:
Wow, this drink is some serious stuff. I mean about half the bottle is the warning label, and it is serious, this drink is INSANE. It says that you should not drink it unless you are over 18, which I would say is a good warning. This is the first drink that was to much for me. The bottle says warning potent, but I have had every energy drink I could find without a problem. This Redline, made me feel like I was tweaking out hard core, I felt like I was going to have a heart attack. I seriously mean I wasn't enjoying the quick happy buzz that you get from most energy drinks. This was a scary my body is going out of control hot and cold sweats, tweaked out. I had the drink at two in the afternoon and I couldn't sleep until 4 am in the morning.
That's from someone who obviously has a lot of experience with these drinks, and considerable resistance to them.

My friend did not follow directions, drinking an entire can -- but what's with putting two "doses" in one can? Every other energy drink comes in a one-serving can.

And what's in the can? Caffeine, Green Tea, Yerba Mate, 5-HTP (5 hydroxy-1-tryptophan), cAMP, Yohimbe, Evodiamine, and Vinpocetine. And a few other things.

I've thought for some time that it's ironic that people like my friend, who are concerned about their health, eating organic foods and shunning tap water, would ever get close to this stuff.

5-HTP? That's an amino acid that's a precursor to the neurotransmitter seratonin. It's in Red Line because of its alleged appetite suppressant characteristics but it also seems to definitely affect the brain chemistry involving mood and depression -- perhaps enhancing feelings -- but what is a compound that messes with brain chemistry doing in an over-the-counter drink?

Plus, it and Vinpocetine can both cause intestinal upset and rapid heartbeat.

Here's some of what Wikipedia has to say about cAMP:

Role of cAMP in human carcinoma

Some research has suggested that a deregulation of cAMP pathways and an aberrant activation of cAMP-controlled genes is linked to the growth of some cancers.[1][2][3]

[edit] Role of cAMP in Prefrontal Cortex Disorders

Recent research may indicate that cAMP affects the function of higher order thinking in the prefrontal cortex through its regulation of ion channels called hyperpolarization-activated cyclic nucleotide-gated channels (HCN). When cAMP stimulates the HCN, these gates open, rendering the brain cell closed to communication, thus interfering with prefrontal cortex function. This research is of interest to scientists studying the brain, especially the degradation of higher cognitive function in ADHD and aging.[4]

Again, what's a chemical that messes with brain chemistry doing in an over-the-counter energy drink?

Red Line's attorneys appear to be well aware of the risks of this product. After their intervention, here's the warning label:

WARNING: NOT FOR USE BY INDIVIDUALS UNDER THE AGE OF 18 YEARS. DO NOT USE IF PREGNANT OR NURSING. Consult a physician or licensed qualified health care professional before using this product if you have, or have a family history of, heart disease, thyroid disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, depression or other psychiatric condition, glaucoma, difficulty in urinating, prostate enlargement, or seizure disorder, or if you are using a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) or any other dietary supplement, prescription drug, or over-the-counter drug containing ephedrine, pseudoephedrine, or phenylpropanolamine (ingredients found in certain allergy, asthma, cough or cold, and weight control products). Do not exceed recommended serving. Exceeding recommended serving may cause adverse health effects. Discontinue use and call a physician or licensed qualified health care professional immediately if you experience rapid heartbeat, dizziness, severe headache, shortness of breath, or other similar symptoms. The consumer assumes total liability if this product is used in a manner inconsistent with label guidelines. Do not use for weight reduction. KEEP OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN.
I wrote VPX sports early in the week asking them to explain why they make this product, and why they pack two doses in a can. They have not responded.

I wrote Seven-11 Stores, which is one of the few retail chains that stocks it, and which sold it to my friend, asking them not to stock the drink any more. They have not responded.
Update: VPX called me on 9/18, following up on my email to Seven-11, not my email to them. The man on the phone, while very friendly, defended the drink as appealing to a small market that wanted a substitute for ephedrine, which has been pulled from the market. His reason for calling was because he was required to under FDA regulations, and spend nearly the entire time asking me questions so he could fill out his questionnaire. He did tell me that to his knowledge, no one has died from the drink.
In all the research I've done on this product, including a Nexis media search, I've found no stories by major media outlets on the threat Red Line presents, although I found one story about a similar drink named Spike sent several Denver and Boulder sent several kids to the hospital.

There's something definitely wrong here. VPX is not taking responsibility for its product and is getting away with it. Seven-11 is not taking responsibility for the products it sells and is also getting away with it.

Please pass this along to your kids and/or friends with a warning. Energy drink drinkers, think about going back to good old coffee or black tea and stay away from this junk.

Redline is crazy. However your friend did not read the label properly. It is a serious energy supplement. Many energy drinks sold at local convenience/grocery stores are not meant to be consumed in one sitting. (Consider a bottle of soda... most are sold in 16oz bottles yet the serving size is 8oz). Redline is fantastic before a workout, or before work. Whenever I am at the mall I stop at GNC specifically for Redline. It is just like any other supplement, the following of directions is necessary to achieve the desired effect.

I have had this many times with no problems. Yesterday I had it at 3am and I had shivers, sweating , high heart rate, nausea, and light headed. I have beer had these affects before and the only thing that changed was u had it on an empty stomach. Never again will I take this with out food. This is a very strong energy drink and I would not recommend this to anyone. This drink is serious and be sure to eat if you ever drink it.

Have heard feed backs for this energy drink. That's the reason why I have switched to Verve energy drink. Thanks for this blog!

I just tried this drink yesterday, I read the entire lable and made the choice to drink it even with all the warnings posted on it. it does say on there that the consumer is responisible for any adverse reactions especially from not following the lable. this drink did nothing but make me feel a little warm, but it was 75 degrees and I was in a vehicle and it made my skin feel a little bit like it was tingly for about 15 min after I drank it. my friend had the same reaction. I dont see any problem with this drink, if you read the lable and choose to still drink it, its your problem. it sounds like most people didnt follow the lable and drank 2 servings as well and right away, does that mean that fast food chains should be shut down cause of people that dont have self control in only eating in moderation and theres a problem with obesity because they arent reading the nutritional information? people need to take the initiative to read labels and if they dont follow them learn to take responsibility for their own actions. One thing though, I do feel that when buying this product, you should need to present an id showing you are 18, I get carded for smokes but not this drink and if a label says under the age of 18 should not consume this drink, then there should be a way to ensure only adults can purchase this.

Hemp? Sorry to say, but hemp is not found in cocaine. In fact, my lotion has hemp extract in it and I can safely say I'm not addicted to my lotion lol.

Whoever this article is about, they clearly didn't know how to use the drink or are far too uneducated to know how to read. The label clearly states to only drink cautiously "1/2" of the bottle and to ensure that you "Workout" right after consumption. This is not a simple energy rink which is why the GNC sells it. You guys are all idiots and/or lightweights. I drink half a bottle and get in an hour long workout and my workout has easily improved while using RedLine. Remember, it's not the drink, it's the user.

Ok, here's my comment. I hope it doesn't offend anyone as that is not my intent. This is only my opinion and experience with Redline Freeze & Burn.

First, there are labels for a reason. Read them. I'm the worlds worse at doing that, but if I've never tried something before, I'm going to read it. I was looking for natural stuff without SUGAR. Everything contains sugar these days.

Now then, because it says NOT to consume a whole bottle I read further to see that it also says not to use it if more than 15 lbs overweight... Well, I am. So I thought I would still give it a shot since I invested money in it. I thought it compared pretty good to five hour energy (which I have & do consume). So I only took 1/4 of the bottle.

It goes on to say not to take it on an emply stomach, so I ate fruit & a protein bar before consuming it. Went on to the gym and felt awesome! No rapid heartbeat like I was expecting. I wasn't running out of energy like I normally do, no jitters or nervousness and felt I did better than any time before. However, during the workout, I did start to feel nauseous. It quickly went away. I felt no different than any other time ay the gym except I was more alert, had more energy and overall felt great.

When I got home I went online to looked up what this stuff was made up of. I got nothing negative from various sites. In fact, of all the things listed in the Redline I took, none of it (individually) said anything bad. Only the Yerba Mate had a potential warning for cancer from over consuming the tea made from the bark.

So, finally in conclusion, I would consume Redline again. Continue with my 1/4 bottle and only when I workout at the gym, not just all the time. I notice it took a bit longer to fall asleep, but one of the ingredients benefits it to allow you to sleep better. I shall see.

All I can say is read, read, read labels. Research what you don't understand. And take the smallest dose until you know how your body will react. How many things do we see that on? Good luck and I hope my comment served as being valuable information. But all remember, not everyone will react the same. Individual result vary.

This is a great product, if you just read the instructions and DON'T DRINK THE WHOLE BOTTLE. With any energy drink you should drink a little bit and see what happens. Nothing happens? Drink more. Shakyness and sickness?? Drink less energy drink and more water. I don't think it's the drink, I think it's the user.
It's called common sense people.

I drink two of these a day and I love them I would die WITHOUT these drinks. I have been drinking two a day for the past 3-5 months including sugar free red bull. For those of you experiencing those side effects. Don't blame the drink. Blame your body. You can't handle it. I only have minor side effects like rapid heart beat and slight shivers. No big deal because any other energy drink will do the same.

So the warning labels that are BOLDLY written all over the bottle were completely ignored, and you're trying to tell people not to drink it? That's YOUR fault. You wouldn't go and drink an entire bottle of cough syrup and then tell people to never drink DayQuil again, right? Take responsibility for your [stupid] action.

Drank 1/2 bottle few minutes before work out. I did not notice any effect so about 45 minutes later I drank the remaining half and continued my workout. I did not notice any increased energy. What I did notice when I got home about 45 minuted later were symptoms consistent with motion sickness or hang over.

This is a pile of horse crap. If you are stupid and don't read the label before consuming something you deserve what you get. I drink this EVERYDAY. I even drink the extreme kind. I do drink it in quarter portions because YOU don't need that much for it to work.

I have also consumed an entire bottle of the stuff at once with no ill effects. Well you feel a bit jittery if you drink all of it. But that's it. You feel like you had too much coffee but without the gut rot that coffee gives you if you.

The bottle tells you to try a little and see how you feel. IT HAS an *F-in'* WARNING ABOUT BEING CAREFUL. So if you are stupid and don't tread with caution, toward something you are not familiar with, you deserve to be sick!

Everyone I know has tried this drink and some people get jittery. But NO ONE HAS EVER BEEN SICK. If this person did there is probably something wrong with them and they probably had a bad reaction to something in the drink.

This is not bad for you! This is actually how I self medicate my depression instead of using meds. If you use it in moderation and it has the right effects on your body. This will help you have energy and be in a better mood. I have no idea how it works. But it does for me. So it kind of makes me mad that people are bashing this drink and making people afraid to drink it because of stupid rumors.

It's going on 4 or 5 years that I have been drinking it on and off and it's never given me issues. I have just always treated it like it's very effective and used it in small moderated quantities.

Hey All,

I just thought id put my two cents in.

I have been taking redline for the past 6 months, and have not had any issue with it. i drink it slowly, sippping on it from when i wake up and it gives me the kick i need to start my day. im a short 5ft7 guy slim-med build.

my personal trainer got me on it and told me to read the directions and be careful with it, which is what ive done.

i guess its just one of those things where you need to be careful what you take and how you take it.

Ive also noticed it has a lot of ingredients. perhaps its one of the ingredients in the mixture that most people have a reaction to. if you cant handle it, or have issues, then dont drink it.

Anonymous said...

Ive straight chugged a redline many times. great for energy and appetite suppression. Im smart enough not to drink 2 in a day. Slight anxiety when it wears off is all, and it will keep you awake if drank in the evening. Id have one daily if they didnt cost $3.50 a bottle here.

Different people are sensitive to different substances - amazing, I know. Just because a minority are very sensitive to Redline's ingredients does not mean that no one should ingest Redline.

I have taken this stuff on more than one occasion and I like the product very much, I learned that each person is different. I use it for pre-workout only and have divided the the bottle into 4 doses (3 at the most) even in doing that, I have found this product to be strong enough to give me the mental focus I need for an intense workout. Best rule of thumb, take less than the recommended dosage and always make sure you are engaged in enough physical activity to process it out of your system. I will leave you with this anecdote that should encourage all users of this product to drink plenty of water. The first time I used this I drank one full serving(1/2 bottle), I drank at least one gallon of water during my workout and sweat so much I did not have to urinate even once that entire day. Always remember, these manufacturers are only concerned with selling you a product. It is up to you to safeguard your health. If you use a supplement, treat it like any prescription drug or OTC medication. If you get the desired result from less product, then use less. Exceeding the recommended dosage will not help. A supplement is exactly what it's called, a SUPPLEMENT, not a replacement for healthy eating habits or proper sleep. Be well, be safe, and watch you a$$. Cheers.

After reading literally every single comment, I have come to my own conclusions. First I would like to say that some people are very cruel. Saying hurtful things doesn't get your point across. Second I would like to outline my experience to show what this product did to me.
I took a whole bottle of redline this morning around 11:30 over the course of 45 minutes. I had read the warning label and I knew the dangers. This was not my first time trying the product. It is currently 3am and the side effects I have experienced all day are still with me. I have experienced both positive and negative effects. I have felt very aware of my thoughts, thing have become clearer mentally. The negative effects are, constant trembling/shivering throughout my bodyi have also had my appetite suppressed. The product is doing what it says its supposed to. I have also felt nausea and rapid irregular heartbeats, very strong pounding. This has made me anxious for my health.

My husband drinks these on a fairly regular basis and has not felt any of these side effects. Thus proving that it works differently on different people.

Now to address the issue of irresponsibly. I take full responsibility of my actions, but I believe people should know how it could possibly effect you. That being said, I personally will not use this product again. I would also caution those who may want to try it to be cautious in using it.

The problem here is people being stupid. Why buy a product and not fully read the directions and warnings? It says you have to be 18 to drink, HELLO, maybe you should read why!
I was told about Redline through a friend at work. She had gotten over weight and heard about it being a good fat burner/energy drink. She FOLLOWED the directions and took it for about 8 months. She lost 45 pounds taking this drink before going to work everyday.
I myself have been drinking it and its awesome. I have 3 kids and a full time job. I drink 1/2 a bottle and have another half for the next day. It gives me the energy I need to do everything I need to. And in a sense, in the way they bottle it makes it cheaper than a red bull. 4 bottles for 10 dollars and you get 8 servings? Sounds like a deal!
Maybe it is only good for certain kinds of people, but I wouldn't write it off as a killer! Anything can be a killer if the right precautions are not taken. How about the kid getting killed by not looking up from his smart phone crossing the street.
Slow down people and READ before you consume something, especially energy drinks. Even monsters can be dangerous if you drink 5 a day.

You people are ridiculous! First of all, people who use this irresponsibly know the risk they're taking, let them take risks! The reason society at large has evolved and thrives is because of risk takers from the past, Christopher Columbus, Joan Of Arc, Harry S. Truman, Thomas Edison, and even Albert Einstein. Think about it... I know this is more small time, but people can't easily get meth on the streets without dealing with shady morons and the like and many can't do it without failing a drug screen. Sometimes people need a pick-me-up and Red Line are the only things u can legally get to do so. You soccer moms need to quit blogging and focus on doing your own thing, for real. Your bigotry and downright ignorance is slowly bringing evolution and survival of the fittest to a screeching halt. This is mainly directed to the idiot who wrote this blog, you are ill-tempered, uneducated, and just plain moronic! Think for yourself, quit being so sheepish, and by all means, leave these manufacturers and the stores selling it alone, you inexperienced debutante! If u even know what that is...

1-HTP may be nice for some, but if you take an anti-depressant like zoloft or similar, then DON'T drink this stuff unless you want to end up thrashing and being tied down on a gurney in the ER. You may get a case of Serotonin Syndrome. Several hundred deaths per year speak for themselves, and that does not include undocumented incidents, which would be higher. Also avoid if you take strong pain killers like oxy . . . same idea. Even if you don't take anything like that - just avoid it. Get Monster. It is safe, tasty, and get's the job done (for me anyway). A life is too precious a thing to waste on something as stupid as a soft drink.

Do not consume a redline with alcohol. Do not consume under the age of 18... expressively labeled, don't follow the instructions with anything and something bad is bound to happen. We don't give handguns to our children even though they can be beneficial. We don't give infants adult dosage of any medication. What makes you think that it's a good idea for you to consume something and go against all the warnings.

IT CLEARLY GIVES A WARNING AND SUGGEST A QUARTER OF IT BE TAKEN BEFORE A HALF AND IF IT TELLS YOU CAUTION DONT YOU THINK YOU SHOULD BE CAUTIOUS AND READ AND Y DID THE PERSON WHO POSTEXTHE WARNING LABLE LEAVE OUT SOME OF THE WARNING ?.... IT TELLS YOU DONOT DRINK HALF STARTING OUT START WITH A QUATER HOW DO YOU NOT FOLLOW INSTRUCTION ON A DRINK WITH WARNING LABELS ALL OVER IT LMAO

bob said...

really, a victim?? why don't you tell your friend to take responsibility for her own incredibly stupid actions and learn to read the label?

lmao, you have to be retarded to pick up an energy drink with all these warnings all over it and down 2 whole servings, obviously not bothering to read the directions on the packaging. probably wasn't even looking at the packaging cuz the "1 serving" line sticks out like a sore thumb, making you realize it must be there for a reason! seriously you're retarded if your going to blame the company for some persons idiot mistake of taking more than directed

that's the reason ephedrine is banned now, if taken as directed it's perfectly safe but we had all those idiots like your friend who decided to take too much and get themselves hurt, cuz they're too stupid to follow the directions on the package, and now everyone suffers because of the stupidity of a few morons

Unknown said...

ok let me say this redlines are dangerous yes but people have different reactions to energy drinks. If they had a bad reaction with it then that means they shouldn't be drinking energy drinks to start with. Means their body can't handle that stuff. With that said I drink monsters everyday and drink redlines just as much. I've never once had a bad reaction to it. And I'll drink the entire bottle. So its not only the drink its also the person drinking it.

demoniczie said...

i dont know about you guys but i think yall are a bunch of pussies if yall cant handle this stuff. i drank an entire bottle of this stuff with in a 5 minute period and i fell a sleep. but all im saying is that energy drinks have no effect on me. oh and by the way you guys f-ing stupid for not reading the label. but the label is what made me want to take all of the drink at once. but still i think you guys are pussies when it comes to energy drinks.

Idiots read the labels. I drink red line daily for over a year. You only drink 2 oz of an 8 oz bottle.then it builds a tolerance. I can drink 4 bottles with no issues.

Harpazo said...

Its all about portion and what you do afterwards. Drink the recommended amount, then be sure to drink plenty of water as cramping, vomitting, and aches are signs of dehydration. The majority of posts do not sound like individuals who handle the product responsibly. The amount of water intake should outnumber all other intake for the day i.e; food, exercise, and supplements.

CourageousEnigma said...

Bull, you are only a VICTIM of YOUR OWN ACTIONS! Why can't people take responsibility for their own actions these days!?!?!?!?!!!

The fact that Reline is so powerful is exactly why I LOVE IT! Personally I have an insanely high tolerance so it does not hit me that hard anymore, and God do I MISS that RUSH. Not only that but I have attention deficit disorder so have been on medication for that since I was in 3rd grade (I'm 28 now). My ADD medication will be either Adderall or Conceta month to month since I have to change them periodically as I build up resistance to them. For those who don't know, most ADHD medications are essentially laboratory made, clean, safe SPEED. The label on my medication this month says "amphetamine-dextroamphetamine" and last month was "methylphenidate," and I drink Redline WITH my medication almost EVERY day, sometimes more than just one bottle, (and I drink the Redline Xtreme, not the weaker blue one that is only half as strong as the Xtreme) with NO "LET ME SAY THAT AGAIN, NO" negative effects other than to sometimes wish it were stronger (because they are expensive) and it does seem to help me focus a little more than just my medication alone, oh yeah, and it boosts my mood "terrible right?" People who have ADD or ADHD have a different reaction to this type of medication that do people who have "normal" brains, which is why Doctors use stimulants to help people with the disorders. Come on, we've all heard the saying, "if you can't stand the heat stay out of the kitchen." Well, this is a PRIME example, not to mention who the hell do you think you are tying to take away my freedoms, the government does enough of that already. Other people's stupidity is not a good reason to limit my rights or freedoms. If VPX wants to make this they can, (and thank God they do!) there is Nothing Wrong with it and they COVER the bottles in warnings. If they consumer is too stupid/careless to read the warnings its their own fault. Sorry but personally I don't advise putting anything in your mouth if you DON'T EVEN KNOW WHAT'S IN IT/WHAT IT IS. That's as bad as the woman who sued McDonalds because SHE SPILLED HOT COFFEE IN HER OWN LAP. OF COURSE IT'S HOT YOU DUMB BITCH, WHAT DID YOU EXPECT? But instead of taking PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY/ACCOUNTABILITY she blames someone ELSE and wants to make the REST OF THE WORLD change for her, to compensate for HER shortcomings.  READ THE LABEL and if you can't take it then don't drink it, it's that simple. It's not like they put the warnings on the bottles because they're PRETTY. Me, I wish they would make one stronger since this one has lost so much of its effects on me. Probability won't happen though cuz of all the whiny b!tches out there saying its too strong. (hell, it's not like those people have some kind of shortage of other options)How many people can't hold their liquor? But no one is saying liquor should be taken off the market cuz their dumb @$$ got to drunk right? For those of us who are NATURALLY so low energy that sometimes it's hard to function (me), or for those who are so busy that they really need the pick me up (also me) this stuff is a Godsend. And for the record, its not just me, my mother drinks more of these than I do, and we have BOTH been drinking them for years. We also both take the Redline pills on occasion, though we don't like them as much because they aren't nearly as strong as the drinks.

Very well put, I noticed the same thing.

Also how does one redline throw you like that? I've had two in one sitting and had no problems whatsoever.

jrock said...

this whole article is wack because majority of the people having adverse side effects did not follow the label on it. arguing that it is wrong for it to have 2 doses in a can as opposed to other energy drinks is arguing that its okay for people to not follow instructions with products they have never tried. it is really intense undoubtedly, much stronger than 5 hour energy or monster or red bull, but that doesn't make the manufacturer at fault considering there are plenty of warnings on the bottle.

Unknown said...

Redline is a perfectly fine drink EVERYONE who has written a small blog about hating the company obviously didnt read the bottle before drinking it and it would tell you drink 2OZ to check the dose you need... not drinking the entire bottle no wonder why everyone couldnt handle it. if you follow the directions you would see it is a really helpful drink and it does warn you dont drink over half a bottle a day (some people drink 1-2 bottles) but they know the risks and they space it out over time. never have i seen someone get ill or horribly sick. maybe people should READ WARNING LABELS next time before getting all bent out of shape and instantly writting a hate blog about it.. Good Day I believe im done here.

Unknown said...

The warning label covers half the can and tells you not to even drink a full serving at a time till you know how you'll react There's even a side of the can just to help you measure the serving and has it marked where the one serving is.

Unknown said...

I have used red line energy drink and I absolutely love it. I work 12 swing shift and it keeps me going for ten out of the twelve hours. For those who are shunning it may be you should read the label more carefully, it states that you are not to consume the whole drink all at once that's where the shakes and sickness is coming from.

Sorry about your poor decision making, but it really annoys me that you go on a crusade to get a product that I personally greatly enjoy pulled from one the last places that stocks it. I drink Red Line pretty regularly, and as long as I only drink the recommended 1/2 bottle and have a small meal with it, I'm fine. I have a high tolerance to energy products and Red Line is the only beverage that can actually keep me awake when I'm getting really sleepy. If you don't like it, don't drink it, but stop trying to make it even more difficult to obtain for those of us who do like it.

Kitkat said...

This is a product I've used on an occasional basis for about 2 years. I follow the recommended usage, including starting with 1/4 bottle (1/2 serving) until I knew how it affected me. I have never had a single negative side effect and have even discussed it with my doctor, who has assured me that as long as I'm following the health warnings and not relying on it in my daily life, it's no more harmful than any other energy supplement. Some people will have bad reactions, because every body is different and this is the cas with pretty much any product. Some people, including those in several of these accounts, chose not to drink the product responsibly, and had a bad experience as a result of that which, again, can happen with pretty much any product.

Unknown said...

I have drank red line drinks and red line pills for a very long time if you can read all over the bottle says only drink to line that is half way down the bottle people not reading the labels is no reason to blame the drink if that's the case can we blame alcohol for drunk drivers that kill people because all over the bottle says drink responsibly

Unknown said...

People who don't drink responsibly well should be ashamed of your selves you are no better than alcoholics who blame beer or whisky for their drinking problem grow up I drink red line by following the directions on the bottle and I don't know anyone who has had any issues with red line products.

I'm 17 140lbs and I drink half of a bottle after lunch before I work out and I'm perfectly fine in fact I get tired around 10 EVERY NIGHT and I only drink it once a week so it DOESNT affect me at all!

I have one of these every morning!yes while they are intense they have never made me sick . I found they having a snack with them is key to that. And if you are new to it, to only drink half at a time . As recommended. This drink is great for if you need to use your brain things seem to pop off a lot faster.

Then you're an idiot. It says clearly on the label not to drink more than one a day. If you were drinking 4-5 a day you are getting what you deserve for being an idiot.

Unknown said...

I have never had an energy drink in my life until my husband introduced me to these about a month ago. I started off with a quarter of a bottle. I am now drinking two bottles a day and I am fine! Read the directions on the bottle! And figure out your caffeine tolerance! Drink responsibly and don't be an idiot! If you drink 4-5 a day or drink a whole one or two bottles your first time, you may get what you deserve for being stupid. Just like alcohol or cigarettes, why should they be pulled from the shelves just because some idiots abuse them? Some of us like them and don't drink them like an idiot. Some people actually use them like they are supposed to and get exactly the reaction we want from them!

The bottle says that the caffeine amount is less than two cups of coffee, so this is inaccurate. The point they're making is that there's something serious in this stuff. Caffeine doesn't give you those kinds of effects unless you consume an outrageous amount.

Unknown said...

What people don't listen to is the amount you're supposed to drink. It clearly states to only drink half and people dink the whole thing and complain of the results. I have always followed it's guide lines and never ever had a problem. If people are sensitive to caffeine then you should know to test it out with half of the recommended dose which is what I did. Not having common sense will kill you before this drink does.

Unknown said...

This is not your normal energy drink. Technically it's not an actual energy drink. It's a preworkout energy supplement.

I must be weird or just that burnt... but I bought a 4 pack of these things and drank half, then drank half again (2 servings) about 2 hours apart this friday. I have since woke up twice a day to piss and its now 126 AM monday morning, I drank another and just got back from the store with some Yellow Jackets, and I feel like I cant wake up and am probably gonna go back to bed lol. So it must not be that great.

This is the best thing to hit the market. And as usual someone has to put their 2 cents in because they did not follow the directions and they want to get it banned. I have sleep apnea and this stuff actually works whereas I can take a 5-hour and go to sleep. I have found it actually helps me study and keeps me alert. I have had no side effects and I drink one a day. I would say that if a person has problems when they drink this redline then they shouldnt drink it.

People are so insensitive!
Every single human body is different and unique in how they react to certain things. I am an average weight/height, active individual. And, intelligent at that. I purchased a bottle from 7/11 before my workout yesterday for an "extra pump." I did not feel the effects until about 5 hours later, when I thought I was literally going to die. I followed the instructions and ONLY DRANK HALF OF THE BOTTLE. But here I am, roughly 20 hours later, in the hospital with a stomach ulcer. Sure, this product may not affect everybody in the same manner. That is true of any product. However, it amazes me that, despite the numerous warnings on the bottle (it doesn't even have room for positive advertisement) that it can still be sold in stores. This product is dangerous and is literally putting people's lives in danger. For the people who can tolerate it, you should try to better understand that just because others cannot, does not make them "pussies." This drink is no joke, and if it were to get into the hands of the wrong person, it could be fatal. DO NOT RISK CONSUMING THIS DRINK. I'd rather keep my stomach lining.

! This drink is the devil. Why would anyone in their right mind even mull-over the idea of sacrificing a fraction of a thought to reading the bottle before drinking?! It's crazy! One must surely understand that we, as intelligent beings, would never dare consider using our ability to process written language as a tool to determine what may or may not be safe for our individual body chemistry. Let's start a class-action suit; clearly, we have all been wronged because there was no way one could have had the slightest inkling of what may be the expected outcome of this drink - extensive warning label aside..

We victims should also use the power of all of us to take down those damn alcoholic beverages. My 22 year old niece was brutally victimized by alcohol. She was literally poisoned!! and no one seems to be doing anything about it. I've contacted the TAF to talk to them about this poisonous product, but was unable to get a solid answer as to why their products are mercilessly causing so many people to be victimized. I'll let you guys know when I hear a response.

Until then, please, stay safe. We deserve the right, as humans, to unwittingly shove whatever we desire into our pie-holes. Honestly, I do not know why there are labels for anything.

Keep fighting the good fight.

I'm drinking redline right now and it literally says to only drink half the bottle in 4 different spots on it. So if you thought it was a good idea to drink the whole thing then either you can't read or you're just ignorant. Plus, like mentioned by so many others above me, most energy drinks come with at least 2 servings per container so if you have "so much experience" with energy drinks then you must not actually read the labels. You should ALWAYS read the instructions when taking any supplement or diet pill. The bottle has a measuring tool right on the side of the bottle for easy use. Love this product.

Redline Energy drink will probably be the best energy drink out to the world. It gives you energy now when you need it but the thing is if you're not hydrated and I mean super super super hydrated don't take this all the symptoms are exactly what dehydration is .first time I took this I was bouncing off the walls had so much energy I want to go play basketball with Dunking every play . And actually yesterday I drink literally two steps pounded one Gatorade and had one water today and I took it was one game of basketball and I was dehydrated good energy drink to stay hydrated

But why is it legal to sell thing that are bad for you? Really? Ever heard of tobacco? Alcohol? Or better yet, prescription "medicine"? All of which have death tolls in the millions.
The government doesnt make things illegal cause they're bad for us. That would be a dictatorship.
These people like to try things without properly researching them, so a law is required to take away their choice?
No. Liability is on the consumer. Someone buys cigarettes and ends up with lung cancer that doesn't mean the producers or distributors of a legal and lucrative commodity are at fault. Blame rests on the dumbass that decided to ignore the surgeon general.
You don't like things that are bad for you? Well me and a lot of other people do. So how bout I do me, and you do you. Quite trying to outlaw shit cause regret trying something that cleary wasnt meant for you

You are all very misinformed about naturally occurring chemicals and precursors produced by the body and the brain. While the effects of Huperzia (club moss) have not been thoroughly studied, it is just a moss extract and is sold to help with memory, as many other natural herbs and extracts, have been sold for years . I keep reading that people are worried about "brain compromising\enhancing chemicals" such as 5-htp... 5-htp is the precursor to seratonin, and is produced by eating certain things, and also naturally in your body. It is no different than taking melatonin for help with sleep, which is the last stage of serotonin. Do not be fooled by the names of chemical compounds, they can be misleading. It is not brain altering, and is taken as a supplement much like L-tyrosine,which is a precursor to dopamine, and is also found in bananas. There is nothing in this drink that will hurt you unless you are specifically sensitive to certain caffeine derivatives, such as synthetic caffeine or you do not follow the instructions. I have been delving into the world of nootropics for some time, and have been studying nutrition for personal use and this drink is the closest thing to a real game changer since they added B vitamins to caffeine to make things like Red Bull. B vitamins, as it were, can also be found in things like spinach, or other naturally grown things. Niacin as well. You know how many people died from Red Bull by not following instructions and not knowing their own limits? A whole lot more than is reported, I assure you. Point is; don't ingest strange things you've never researched or taken in excess amounts, and don't ignore warning labels.

Those of you having a hard time with Redline yet claim to not be lightweights are lying to yourself. I just drink 3 large mugs of coffee and a redline. No issues what so ever.

The only time Redline has ever given me trouble is I drink one and took some pre-workout. Until I put in 30 minutes at a blistering pace on the rowing machine it was... unpleasant. After that I set about to setting some new PRs in squats and deadlifts.

WHO-CARES said...

Just saying the ROCKSTAR I'm drinking right now, the serving size is 8 FL. Oz. The servings per container? 2. So it's not only REDLINE that puts 2 servings in one can. Just saying part of your article is wrong. Also to the person who posted about the death from REDLINE, you should know that you're not supposed to mix alcohol with energy drinks. Not even supposed to mix with Gatorade.

I think everyone is different, Personally I've had nothing but positive results from drinking red line. I follow the instructions on the label though. I drink one serving before my shifts at work, I do however have a very physically active job and I use the energy up by the end of it. If you are sensitive to things like this and dont follow the instructions the yes you will have negative results. But if your body can handle it ( like I said everyone is different) and you take as recommended it can be a good alternative to monster and stuff like that.

I have to agree with lance all these negative reviews are made by ppl who didnt read the directions and were complete idiots. Redline is a hardcore energy drink. It says to start drinking only 1/4 of the bottle per 24hrs... seems like ppl dont care how much of a substance they put in there body aslong as it tastes good.

Ive come to sip the bottle over a 4-8 hr period never siping past 1/2 the bottle in a day.
This is the only energy shot so far that gives me enough energy to stay awake on nightshifts. Spike used to work but that and rockstar both have no affect on me. Redbulls are a joke and 5hour or 7hour energy just is nasty tasting water. It sounds to me that most of the complainers above have very low tolerance for energy drinks or shots and should have started with less potent concoctions. Dont hate on a product if you cant follow instructions.

Unknown said...

Seriously? I drink one... ENTIRE CAN, before I go to the gym everyday. No issues ever. I've been doing this for years. No problems at all. I would suppose that if you drink one and then proceed to sit in a cubicle all day maybe that isn't the best idea, as you would probably get the jitters, feel an increased heart rate, and possibly work yourself into a panic. I have personally never had anything other than temporary itchy skin (niacin) as I started my workout. It's been a great product for me and the only reason I'm on here is because my girlfriend has heard the horror stories.

4 or 5 “bottles per day”?! Here’s another one who wants to blame THEIR problems on a product because you are CLEARLY illiterate!
You exceed the WRITTEN daily dosage ON the bottle by 5 TIMES and you blame Redline for YOUR stupidity? You definitely qualify for this blogs DARWIN AWARD!
The sheer stupidity of some people and their inability to accept responsibility for their OWN ACTIONS is sad epitaph to our society today:
It’s NOT Redlines faulty, it’s YOURS!
You gonna buy a gallon of ice cream per day and eat it, then blame the ice cream maker?? Or maybe it was the SPOONS fault??
Good grief!!

But if you get up and burn the energy out you be fine!! But i belive it has nothing to do about being fit or how much you way!! People redline is not for people who just sit around!! If you drinking a energy drink to jist stay awake get a redbull!!

This drink is like legal methamphetamine. I joke not to the fact that I have not been asleep in 5 days, all from drinking redline energy drinks. I admit that the adverse affects of drinking this energy supplement is not enjoyable, however if you use it before a work out; it gives you that extra boost of energy to do that extra super-set. Yet. Even after 5 days of physically demanding employment as a stone Mason, working out intensely, doing breathing exercises and drinking lots of water every day; I cannot fall asleep. Another thing is that my body and mind seem to function better after I've had a fix of a double dose. It's as if I am becoming addicted to being nauseous, jittery, wide awake and having extremely blurred vision. I seriously suggest that unless you want to feel constantly like your going to keel over from sleep deprivation, that you stay very far away from this drink. I haven't had one in 2 days now, but still feel like I have slammed a kilo of clear in my veins. Lord help me fall asleep soon.

I took it with 120mg of Adderall and I got wrecked. The days and 2 weeks following still happening, drinking coffee or anything other than coke for energy sends me into what feels like caffeine overdose. Even when I don't mess up and consume something for energy my bpm is in the 180s and 170s with over 100 as the number under it and over 100 pulse. I've had tachycardia since I drank 4 Oz of redline under the effect of Adderall. I used to take it before Adderall hit and id end up crashing a few hours later and taking another 4 Oz and I started getting sick. Taking it under the effect of Adderall messed me up and I can't drink double shots or white mocha or anything stronger than caffeniated soda without having intense caffeine sensitivity. I don't know whats wrong with me. I did a urine test and it pointed at signs of kidney disease or failure and ketones in my urine and weird shit. They want me to retake it with a clean catch but I've been so wasted since that redline encounter I haven't managed to get it done. I'm quickly fatigued and sensitive to caffeine now. It's messed up. Worst I've felt
